Mulch Installation in Lima, Ohio

Fresh mulch makes a house look cared for almost overnight. We prep every bed properly, cut a sharp edge, and spread mulch evenly at the right depth — so it looks great and actually does its job.

Overview

It's not just dumping mulch — the prep is what makes it look sharp

Mulch spread over weeds and a messy edge looks fine for about two weeks. The beds that stay sharp all season are the ones that were cleaned out, edged and laid at an even depth to begin with.

That's how we do every mulch job in Lima, whether it's a single bed by the front porch or every bed on the property.

Why mulch is worth it

Beyond looking good, a proper layer of mulch holds moisture in the soil through dry stretches, keeps roots cooler in summer and insulated in winter, and makes it much harder for weed seeds to sprout.

As it breaks down, it also feeds the soil underneath — which is why beds need a top-up each year.

How we install mulch

We start by pulling weeds and clearing leaves and debris. Then we cut a clean edge so mulch stays in and grass stays out. Mulch goes down at two to three inches — enough to block weeds without smothering roots — and is pulled back from shrub stems and tree trunks to prevent rot.

No "mulch volcanoes" piled against trees. Just clean, level beds.

Choosing a mulch

Shredded hardwood in black, dark brown or natural tones covers most homes beautifully. We'll talk through color with you so it complements your house, stone and plantings — and we'll match what's already there for a top-up.

Timing

Best time for mulch in Lima

Mulch can go down most of the year, but these are the sweet spots.

  1. Spring

The most popular time — fresh color for the season and a head start on weeds.

  2. Early summer

Still great, and helps beds hold moisture going into the hotter months.

  3. Fall

Insulates roots before winter and leaves beds tidy through the off-season.

  4. Every year

A light top-up keeps color rich without building up too deep.

FAQ

Common questions

Don't see yours? Ask us directly.

How much mulch do I need?

We measure your beds and calculate it for you. Most beds need about two to three inches; a yearly refresh is often closer to one inch on top of what's there.

Should old mulch be removed first?

Only if it's built up too deep. If there's already several inches, we'll thin it out so new mulch doesn't suffocate plant roots.

What colors can I choose?

Black, dark brown and natural hardwood are the most common. We'll help you pick what looks best with your home.

Is weeding included?

Yes. Clearing weeds and debris is part of the prep — mulch over weeds doesn't last.
